Welo Prism Opal

$285.00

Welo Prism Opal

Size 8

Solid 925 Sterling Silver

Light, suspended.

This faceted Ethiopian opal comes from the Welo (Wollo) Province of northern Ethiopia — a volcanic landscape where silica-rich fluids once filled cavities in rhyolitic rock. As those fluids cooled and solidified, they formed something extraordinary.

Opal isn’t crystalline like quartz or topaz.

It’s made of microscopic silica spheres stacked in a precise, repeating structure. When light enters the stone, it bends and diffracts between those spheres — breaking into spectral color.

That phenomenon is what you’re seeing here.

Neon green. Electric yellow. Burning orange.

Flashes of red beneath a milky-translucent body.

Unlike traditional cabochon opals, this stone is faceted — giving it sharp planes that fracture and scatter the fire even more dramatically. Each movement of the hand changes the entire landscape of color.

Set in solid sterling silver with a clean bezel and balanced band, the design allows the opal’s fire to do the talking.

No two Welo opals are ever the same.

This one leans bright. Alive. Almost liquid.
