Our Story

“Wolf2Raven exists to help people see the Earth differently by sharing the stories written in its landscapes and the people whose lives are shaped by them.”

About Wolf2Raven

Every Landscape Has Two Stories

Everything begins with time.

Mountains rise over millions of years. Rivers carve valleys through solid rock. Crystals grow atom by atom beneath the Earth’s surface. Oceans appear and disappear long before we ever arrive to witness them. As geologists, we learn to read those stories.

What surprised me was discovering that landscapes aren’t the only things shaped by time.

People are too.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by the Earth. I was the person who couldn’t drive past an outcrop without wondering how it formed or follow a river without asking what story it was trying to tell. I wanted to understand why mountains rise, how rivers shape landscapes, where gemstones form, why certain places become rich in minerals while others remain untouched, and how landscapes preserve the history of our planet across immense spans of time.

That curiosity eventually carried me across the world to Morocco.

When I first arrived, I believed I was searching for geology.

Every day in the field answered one question while uncovering ten more. Ancient mountain belts, forgotten mining districts, fossil beds, volcanic landscapes, and river systems became an endless classroom. The more I learned, the more I realized geology is far more than the study of rocks.

It is the study of time.

Of change.

Of the forces that shape our planet and, in many ways, ourselves.

For years, I believed I was studying the Earth.

Looking back, I realize the Earth was quietly teaching me.

Somewhere along the way, something unexpected happened.

The landscapes taught me how the Earth works.

The people taught me how to live.

That realization became the foundation of Wolf2Raven.

Over the years I was welcomed into homes, workshops, and mining communities throughout Morocco. I shared tea after long days in the field, learned from miners whose knowledge had been earned through decades underground, walked landscapes with fossil hunters who knew every valley by memory, and watched artisans preserve traditions passed from one generation to the next.

Those experiences changed the way I understood exploration.

I realized every specimen carries two stories.

One was written by the Earth over millions of years.

The other was written by the hands that uncovered it.

Neither is complete without the other.

Life eventually reminded me that the Earth isn’t the only thing shaped by time and pressure.

We are too.

Unexpected challenges forced me to slow down, rethink what success truly meant, and recognize that resilience is often found in the quiet decision to keep moving forward.

As I reflected on the people who had inspired me most, I realized none of them ever spoke about perseverance.

The miner simply returned underground.

The fossil hunter crossed the desert before sunrise.

The artisan sat back down at the workbench.

They simply continued.

Their example became part of my own story.

Wolf2Raven was born from those lessons.

Not as a mineral company.

Not as an expedition company.

But as a philosophy.

A belief that curiosity creates understanding.

Understanding creates respect.

Respect creates meaningful connection.

Everything we do grows from that belief.

Whether documenting geological discoveries, supporting traditional craftsmanship, sharing responsibly sourced minerals and fossils, creating educational resources, or leading field experiences, our purpose remains the same.

To help people see the Earth differently.

To recognize that every mountain, crystal, fossil, and landscape tells two stories.

One written by geology.

One written by humanity.

Neither should ever be separated from the other.

What We Believe

  • Curiosity is where discovery begins.

  • Geology is the story of time written across the Earth.

  • Every specimen carries two stories: one written by the Earth and one by the hands that uncovered it.

  • Knowledge should be shared generously.

  • Cultures should be approached with humility and respect.

  • Exploration should deepen our understanding of both the world and ourselves.

My hope has never been to build the largest company.

It has always been to build one worthy of trust.

One that values knowledge over ego.

Relationships over transactions.

Respect over exploitation.

If Wolf2Raven inspires someone to slow down, ask better questions, appreciate another culture, or look at a simple mineral and see something far greater than an object in a display case, then it has fulfilled its purpose.

Because the greatest discoveries are rarely the ones we expect to find.

Sometimes they’re hidden beneath the Earth.

Sometimes they’re found across a shared cup of tea.

And sometimes they’re found within ourselves.

The landscapes taught me how the Earth works.

The people taught me how to live.

That is the heart of Wolf2Raven.

Maaz Scott

Maaz Scott is a geologist, field researcher, and the founder of Wolf2Raven, an expedition company built on the belief that every landscape has a story worth understanding. His work brings together geology, exploration, education, and cultural connection to help others experience the Earth through a deeper scientific and human perspective.

He holds academic degrees in the Earth sciences, with a primary emphasis in geology, and has dedicated years to geological fieldwork throughout Morocco. Through extensive time in the Atlas Mountains and surrounding regions, he has studied mineral systems, landscape evolution, gemstone occurrences, and the geological processes that have shaped North Africa over millions of years. His work has taken him far beyond established collecting areas, leading to long standing relationships with miners, fossil hunters, artisans, researchers, and Amazigh communities whose knowledge continues to enrich both his scientific understanding and his appreciation of Morocco’s cultural heritage.

As the founder of Maghreb Mining Group and Wolf2Raven, Maaz combines scientific knowledge with responsible mineral exploration, ethical sourcing, and immersive educational expeditions. His work is driven by a commitment to making geology accessible, engaging, and meaningful while fostering respect for the landscapes, communities, and traditions that make Morocco one of the world’s most remarkable geological destinations.

Today, his research continues to explore Morocco’s mineral systems and landscape evolution while supporting his long term goal of contributing to the scientific understanding of North African geology through doctoral research and publication. Whether leading an expedition, documenting a new locality, or introducing someone to geology for the first time, his mission remains the same: to inspire curiosity, encourage exploration, and help others discover the extraordinary stories written in the Earth beneath their feet.
