Petersite is often called “the Tempest Stone” — and when you see it in motion under light, you understand why. Fibrous bands of crocidolite are naturally broken, folded, and recemented by silica, creating chaotic chatoyant streaks that shimmer like storm clouds tearing across the sky.
Unlike tiger’s eye, where the fibers run in orderly parallel bands, petersite forms through brecciation — shattered fragments reassembled under pressure. The result is turbulence locked in stone.
This specimen carries deep rust-red iron tones layered with smoky gray and flashes of electric blue. As the light shifts, the surface ripples with movement — not sparkle, but motion.
The elongated rectangular cut emphasizes that directional flow, like wind slicing across a desert horizon.
